Over_Under Project
This piece is part of a series of works called the Over_Under Project, unpacking the construction of clothes and helping us to reconnect and understand that a person helped to create each garment you own. Kane used digital images pulled from the creation of her book, The Art of Paper Weaving, cut them apart, and wove them back together to create a new image.
About the Title
A lot of the pieces from the Over_ Under Project are about the down side of fast fashion, the good news is that there are a lot of people and small companies trying to do something about it. 3.7 million pounds represents the amount of textiles that a CA based company, SUAY has saved from landfills. You can purchase products from them, or buy a bag and send some of the clothes and textiles that you no longer want.
3.7 Million is made from four smaller panels. Each panel is woven from paper that was scrap from other projects or larger works. The panels come together to create a piece with vibrant color and also sections of calm repeating patterns. This piece is perfect for the person who likes the idea of minimalism with clean and perfect lines, but also loves play.
The titles of the work in the Under_Over project are intentionally vague and seemingly disconnected from the work, mirroring our relationship with clothes.
