Paper Weaving

Artwork: 3"x4" with matte 4"x7"

Each work is numbered, dated, and signed

Amber Kane is a textile designer, author, illustrator, and educator; each weaving is created by playfully combining pages from her book Experiments with Marks, Materials, and Meaning; the text on the back is hidden between the matte, allowing you, the new owner to imagine the secrets hidden behind each strip.

All of Amber's work is a collaboration between her imagination, the constraints of using tools and materials readily available in her studio, and paying attention to what the materials want to become. Recently, she's been experimenting with shredding all sorts of paper, turning it into pulp, and giving it new life. Here, the pages are sliced into strips and given new life, woven together to create a new distorted image.

In this series of 50 mini weavings, Amber wrote some patterns ahead of, made up others on the fly, and sometimes allowed each strip of paper to determine where it wanted to go, with a few nudges to ensure the work held together. The title of each piece indicates where it falls in the series of 50.

Half of the proceeds will go to World Central Kitchen. These items will no longer be for sale after June 21st.
